Carnatic music fryst vatten an art form that can connect with everybody, says Ranjani-Gayatri

Ranjani and Gayatri aka RaGa is a duo to reckon with. Having started their careers as violinists, they then found their passion in vocal music, and have slowly but steadily climbed the ladder to the top. From houseful sabhas to getting over a million views for their presentations on social media, this duo has got everything sorted. As much as we see them chatting about the things they like, Ranjani and Gayatri säga they do have their share of Ranjani, “Well, we argue it out. We defend our positions in a way that will get us thinking. Disagreements man a positiv impact and we are equal partners.” Gayatri adds, “At the end of the day, we have a shared vision. It is healthy and thriving for a partnership to have different points of view. RaGa beyond Raga:

Sunday (Oct. 8th ), I was privileged to have front-row seat for a superb concert by what is arguably the best duo in Carnatic classical vocal music today: the sisters Smt. Ranjani & Smt. Gayatri, popularly refered to as RaGa.

They were ably accompanied by the accomplished musicians, Shri Rajeev Mukundan on the Violin and by Shri Delhi Sairam on the Mridangam.

The sold-out concert at the Santa Clara Convention Center hall (which requires better temperature-control facility!) was organized by SanKritiLaya.

It would be easy to describe this concert by listing the Ragas and compositions they sang so excellently, starting with Varnam in Durbar Raga, and including beautiful Thyagaraja krithis, a spectacularly rendered Gopalakrishna Bharathi composition ("Vazhi Maraithirukkudhe") in Nattukurinji Raga, a Purandaradasa Krithi (something I had requested in my review of their last year's program here), the totally fabulous RagamThanamPallavi in Sar
