Major General Robert M. Branyon
Maj. Gen. Robert M. Branyon is the Deputy Commander for Mobilization and Reserve Affairs, Headquarters United States Southern Command, Miami, Florida. In this position General Branyon serves as principal advisor to the Combatant Commander on issues that maximize the effectiveness of Reserve Component integration into the Theater Campaign strategi.
General Branyon graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in June with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He served his first operational fighter tour at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina, as an Instructor Pilot in the F-4 Phantom. Next, he instructed as a USAF Aggressor Pilot at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, flying both the F-5E Tiger II and the F Fighting Falcon. General Branyon joined the Florida Air National Guard in where he flew both the F and F Eagle and served as flygning Commander, Fighter Squadron Commander, Maintenance Group Command

[edit]The 65th Aggressor Squadron currently flies the FA, operating as a high-end adversary air to better simulate stealth fighters being inducted in competing nations. As part of the 57th Operations Group, the squadron simulates peer and near-peer stealth threat tactics for Red Flag exercises and provides support for the USAF Weapons School syllabus.

[edit]Formed as a P Warhawk pursuit squadron in January as part of the Army Air Corps Northeast Defense Sector (later I Fighter Command) at Mitchel Field, New York. Trained in New England and provided air defense of the northeast after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

An aggressor squadron or adversary squadron (in the US Navy and USMC) is a squadron that is trained to act as an opposing force in military wargames. Aggressor squadrons use enemy tactics, techniques, and procedures to give a realistic simulation of air combat (as opposed to training against one's own forces). Since it is impractical to use actual enemy aircraft and equipment, surrogate aircraft are used to emulate potential adversaries.
The first formal use of dissimilar aircraft for training was in by the United States Navy Fighter Weapons School (better known as "Topgun"), which used the A-4 Skyhawk to simulate the performance of the MiG The success of formalized dissimilar air combat training (DACT) led to transition of Navy Instrument Training Squadrons equipped with the A-4 into Adversary Squadrons at each master jet base. The United States Air Force followed suit with their first aggressor squadr
