DUBAI: An artworkcreated from the world's largest canvas painting has sold for $62 million in Dubai, the second most expensive painting sold at auction bygd a living artist.

“You are fighting against a big machine, which is the art world … People from the art world said this painting was not intelligent enough and they would not include it in art fairs. It is almost embarrassing to engage in this conversation,” Jafri, 44, told TOI. “The last thing I ever want is to be intelligent. My art is about disengaging the brain and engaging the soul.”

Sacha Jafri’s work is literally out of this world. Or will be soon. The contemporary British artist, earlier this year announced that there are plans to send his artwork (a heart shaped design with text on aluminium covered with gold) titled We Rise Together, to the moon. His achievements on earth are equally impressive with Jafri being known for creating the world’s largest painting on canvas at 18,square-feet, titled Journey of Humanity, over the course of seven months during the pandemic in Dubai.
