Hilary Phelps is the founder and creative director of Genuine Joy Media Group, LLC. She is a lifestyle consultant and media analyst, as well as an Ironman finisher, a certified yoga instructor, a regular attendee and columnist during NYC Fashion Week, an accomplished baker, a vegetarian, and was the first in her family to begin competitive swimming at the age of 5.
Hailing from Baltimore, Maryland, Hilary Phelps is the oldest of three children born to Michael Fred and Debbie Phelps. From early childhood, she was always a trailblazer and was the first of the Phelps’ children to jump into the water and later into the world of competitive swimming. As her sister Whitney and her brother Michael followed suit in the years to come, Hilary’s passion and ability took her to the University of Richmond where she studied Criminal Justice and Sociology, while competing on a swimming scholarship.

For years, Michael Phelps' sister remained quiet about her alcoholism. But earlier this year, Hilary Phelps began sharing in an effort to help others.

Now, she's in a good space. But in high school, she started doing what many teens do.
"I started experimenting with drinking socially in high school," she said.
Phelps said she was 14 when she took her first drink. That drinking increased during her college years, where she swam competitively on a full scholarship. She said she and her teammates would drink until 2 a.m. and then get up for practice at 6 a.m.
