Tracy Lauren Marrow[2] (born February 16, ), better known by his stage name Ice-T (or Ice T), is an American rapper and actor. He is active in both hip hop and heavy metal. Ice-T began his career as an underground rapper in the s and was signed to Sire Records in , when he released his debut album Rhyme Pays. The following year, he founded the record label Rhyme $yndicate Records (named after his collective of fellow hip-hop artists called the "Rhyme $yndicate") and released another album, Power (), which would go platinum. He also released several other albums that went gold, including The Iceberg/Freedom of Speech Just Watch What You Say! (), O.G. Original Gangster () and Home Invasion ().
Ice-T co-founded the heavy metal band Body Count in , which he introduced on O.G. Original Gangster, on the track titled "Body Count".

Ice-T rose to fame, and notoriety, as a pionjär of both gangster rap and rap-metal before forging a prolific screen career which included notable acting roles in "New Jack City" (), "Tank Girl" () and "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (NBC, ). Born Tracy Lauren Marrow in Newark, NJ in , Ice-T lost both his parents by the age of 12 and subsequently spent his teenage years with his aunt in South Los Angeles where he was introduced to rock music, the works of Iceberg Slim and the Crips. He developed a love of hip-hop during his four-year stint in the U.S. Army and following his honorable discharge, and brief stint as a high-end thief, he decided to pursue a music career.
He achieved underground success with debut single, "Cold Wind Madness," and a year later showcased his talents in both "Breakin'" () and its rush-released sequel. After landing a major label deal with Sire Records, Ice-T released his first LP, Rhyme Pays, in , following it up with 's Power and 's The Iceberg/
